Tired of Squid Game’… Director Hwang Dong-hyuk's 'honest remark' surprises everyone.

김민영 넷플릭스 아시아·태평양 콘텐츠 총괄 부사장은 황 감독의 부담감을 이해한다는 취지에서 "시즌 2·3의 촬영 기간 동안 황 감독이 치아를 잃지 않도록 배려했다"고 말했다. 황 감독은 앞서 "스트레스로 치아 8~9개가 빠졌다"고 언급했었다.

황 감독은 이번 오징어 게임 시즌2 공개 이후 휴식 기간을 가질 예정이다. 황 감독은 "나는 아주 지쳤고, 너무 피곤하다. 어떤 면에서는 '오징어 게임'에 너무 지쳤다고 말할 수밖에 없다. 뭔가를 만들고 홍보하는 삶에 너무 지쳤다"며 "그래서 지금은 다음 프로젝트에 대해 생각하지 않고 있다. 그냥 외딴섬에 가서 넷플릭스의 전화 조차 받지 않은 자유 시간을 갖고 싶다"고 말했다.

Director Hwang said in an interview, "I never intended to make 'Squid Game Season 2,' because the entire process of writing, producing, and directing Season 1 was so exhausting. However, the tremendous success of Season 1 gave me the courage and motivation to create additional series." 'Squid Game' premiered its first season in September 2021, and now Season 2 is being released. Season 3 is expected to come out next year.

Kim Min-young, Netflix's Vice President of Content for Asia-Pacific, expressed understanding of Director Hwang's burden, saying, "During the filming period for Seasons 2 and 3, we made efforts to ensure that Director Hwang doesn't lose any more teeth." Previously, Hwang had mentioned that "8–9 teeth fell out due to stress."

After the release of Season 2 of 'Squid Game,' Director Hwang plans to take a break. He said, "I am very tired and extremely exhausted. In some ways, I can’t help but say that I’m completely worn out by 'Squid Game.' I'm so drained by the life of creating and promoting content," adding, "So, for now, I’m not thinking about my next project. I just want to go to a remote island and enjoy some free time without even taking Netflix’s calls.
